About Us
TD1 Radio was established on 1st December 2008 with the aim of providing more listening choice in the Borders. With local radio and TV services being cut back, we felt it was time to give something back to the Borders by establishing a community led and operated radio station.
All our contributors are volunteers and do not get paid for the work they do. The station operates as a non-profit making body, ensuring that any monies raised are ploughed back into it to keep it on the air. If you'd like to make a donation, however big or small, please click on the Donate link from the main menu.
We broadcast on the Internet due to there being no FM licence available to us at present. We have informed Ofcom of our interest to broadcast on FM and are awaiting a decision from them.
All our programming comes from the Borders and is locally produced - we do not take any programmes from any other radio station or do programme sharing or networking. We are always looking for people to produce and present programmes, or do work behind the scenes.
We currently have volunteers from Galashiels, Selkirk, Hawick, Kelso, St Boswells and Melrose.
If you think you've got what it takes to work in radio, please get in touch with us.
Our Studios At the heart of any radio station is the studio, and at TD1 we strive for audio perfection. Our computer playout system is equipped with professional M-Audio Delta 44 sound cards which provide 4 channels of stereo sound to allow the presenters to get the perfect balance between music, jingles and their voice. We also have Denon CD players and a Technics SL1200 turntable for that retro vinyl. We use iSK microphones to capture presenter and guest voices, with most of our cabling being provided by Canford Audio.
We are linked to the Internet via an ADSL2+ connection provided by Opal. This provides us with a 18mb connection to ensure we have plenty of bandwidth to upstream our programmes to the Internet Radio servers, while maintaining a steady connection for general Internet useage.
